UNCG at Chattanooga

This is one of those games you wish just one little thing would have gone differently. After blasting out the gate and gaining an 11-pt lead, 13-2, the Spartans fizzled offensively as Chattanooga heated up.

Let’s just say we had every chance to win this game, but couldn’t find a way to close the deal. Chattanooga won this game by simply making more points than UNCG.

The refs were a non-factor. In fact, I don’t remember a single “bad” call all game. They were so invisible I didn’t really think about them the whole time. That’s rare. We usually win the games when the refs are not trying to justify their jobs with unnecessary foul calls.

But to win a game, you have to end it with more points than your opponent. And that’s not something we were able to accomplish this time out.

Side Note: UTC’s campus is beautiful and Chattanooga is a town with a lot to offer. You should consider doing a weekend there next year when we go back. And the drive? Absolutely gorgeous.

Kaleb Hunter

8-12 FG (5-7 3PT), 6 reb, 2 to. This is the Kaleb we saw at the beginning of the year. We’re going to need him in Asheville.

James Dickey

3-7 FG, 1-3 FT, 7 rebs, 1 ast, 2 blk, 1 stl, 2 to. James did it. He became the career rebound record holder for UNCG, but it isn’t as much fun to do it in an away game you lose.

Angelo Allegri

2-4 3PT, 3-4 FT, 4 reb, 1 ast, 4 to. Gelo was on offensively this game, but he has to take care of the ball better.

Michael Hueitt Jr

3-5 3PT, 3 reb. I love Hueitt’s shot. It’s so quick and smooth.

Isaiah Miller

7-19 FG (0-3 3PT), 2-3 FT, 4 reb, 7 ast, 1 blk, 2 stl, 2 to. Zay brought the fire this game, but he needs to control that fire. I won’t say his unprovoked technical foul didn’t cost us the game, but it did give UTC 2 points when we had a 7-point lead.

Keyshaun Langley

2-3 FG, 1 reb, 1 ast.

Kyrin Galloway

2-7 3PT, 4 reb, 2 blk, 1 stl.

Malik Massey

0-3 3PT, 4 ast, 1 stl, 2 to.

Big Mo

0-2 FG, 2 reb, 2 ast.

Bas Leyte

3 mins. No stats.

Kobe Langley – Did not play (injured).

Khyre Thompson – Did not play.

Ryan Tankelewicz – Did not play.

Game Summary

Once again, we were upside-down in turnovers and you’re going to be hard-pressed to win a game if the opposing team has less turnovers than you.

  • Rebounds: UNCG 36, Chattanooga 32
  • Bench Points: UNCG 22, Chattanooga 14
  • 2nd Chance Pts: UNCG 12, Chattanooga 7
  • Pts in the Paint: UNCG 24, Chattanooga 32
  • Pts off Turnovers: UNCG 12, Chattanooga 9
  • Steals: UNCG 5, Chattanooga 9
  • Turnovers: UNCG 12, Chattanooga 11
  • Blocks: UNCG 5, Chattanooga 5

All I can say is that we have some adjusting to do in Asheville if we’re to play our third game against Chattanooga more like our first game instead of this second game.
