We did not get the 17-point drubbing I predicted. What we got was an exciting close game that aged me ten years.
The difference between this game and most of our others is that we shot about 60% the number of threes we normally do. But still only shot 44% from the field.
As long as we can offset bad shooting with amazing defense, it won’t matter. What we did do extremely well was force a guard-centric team of ball handlers into 18 turnovers. Wow.
This time of year, all you need is the W. And I’ll take it.
James Dickey
6-9 FG, 0-2 FT, 11 reb, 4 ast, 1 blk, 1 to. JD is playing like a MAN lately. I love it.
Kyrin Galloway
3-5 3PT, 5-5 FT, 3 reb, 1 ast, 2 blk, 1 stl, 1 to. Kyrin is going to be key to winning in Asheville. If he can keep providing support beyond the arc and intimidating opponents under the basket, we’ll be dancing without having to worry about an at-large.
Kaleb Hunter
6-9 FG (1-3 3PT), 8-10 FT, 4 reb, 1 ast. Kaleb came up HUGE tonight. He always seems to get his points quietly. He lead the team with 21.
Big Mo
2-2 FG, 1 reb, 1blk — in 11 mins. When we lose Dickey next year, Big Mo is going to have some big shoes to fill. The preview he’s been giving us this year has me breathing easier.
Malik Massey
1-2 3PT, 3-4 FT, 2 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl, 2 to. Another solid game from the senior.
Isaiah Miller
6-19 FG (1-5 3PT), 2-4 FT, 8 reb, 3 ast, 5 stl, 5 to. Isaiah didn’t really come alive offensively until the final seconds of regulation and overtime. But his defense and leadership during the game kept the crowd excited and boisterous.
Angelo Allegri
1-6 FG (0-3 3PT), 1-4 FT, 1 reb, 2 ast. Not a great shooting night for Gelo.
Keyshaun Langley
1-5 FG (0-3 3PT), 2-2 FT, 1 ast, 1 stl, 1 to. Could have used some better shooting from Key tonight, but you can’t have a great night every time on the court.
Michael Hueitt Jr
1-4 FG (1-3 3PT), 1 reb. Not a bad night from Michael, but not a great one either. Solid play while he was in.
Kobe Langley
4 mins – 1-2 FT.
Bas Leyte – Did not play
Khyre Thompson – Did not play.
Ryan Tankelewicz – Did not play.
Game Summary
We allowed Wofford to make 5 three-pointers during overtime. That blows my mind. We allowed them to have 8 during the entire game, and then they made 5 in 5 extra minutes of play. Yow. If we hadn’t gotten some gritty rebounds off missed freethrows, we might have left with a big L. Other than that, we kind of played our game.
Not sure how we let Hoover do his little stop-turn-around-fade-away jumper so many times. Seems like that would have been covered in the scouting tapes.

We have three games left before the tourney. Away at VMI Saturday, home against Furman next Wednesday, and away at Chattanooga next Saturday. With VMI beating Western yesterday and holding close to ETSU the other day, they are a very dangerous team … especially the way we’ve shown we have problems with teams that shoot the three.
Furman, of course, will be a HUGE game and would put us into 2nd place in the league … and the Chattanooga game would seal it.
I think it goes without saying that we need all three Wins to finish the season.
