UNCG vs Furman

Not much to say about this game. I wasn’t happy with a lot of the reffing … but Furman beat us by making shots when we couldn’t. They’re a good team and we might see them again in the Socon Tourney. I relish it.

I find it a little suspect that Furman didn’t get their first foul until 8 minutes into the game … and they didn’t get their first foul in the 2nd half until 10 minutes into the half. There were definitely some plays that could have been called.

But the reffing was bad both ways. There were a LOT of calls on both sides that were called wrong and/or missed.

Bottom line: Furman found our weaknesses and exploited them. We were upside-down on turnovers (we had 17, Furman had 13) and I’d say 1/3 of our turnovers were unforced. We played a bad game and the score shows it.

Does that make them a better team than us? This game, yes. But remember, we beat them handily at their house. They were able to make an adjustment and do the same to us. If we meet them in the Tourney, let’s hope Wes Miller has learned how to do the same. All that separates us from being tied with Furman in 2nd place is a double-overtime loss at Wofford without 2 starters.

But of course, what all Spartan fans should take away from this game was the amazing full-court shot by Isaiah Miller at the half to cut the deficit to 9. It was beautiful and the crowd responded. (Twitter Video)

James Dickey

6-7 FG, 3-4 FT, 5 reb, 2 ast, 1 blk. Great outing by the senior.

Kaleb Hunter

5-7 FG (1-2 3PT), 4 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl, 2 to. If Kaleb can keep playing like this, Asheville will fall in line.

Angelo Allegri

4-7 FG (3-6 3PT), 4 reb, 1 to. This is the shooting we all know Gelo can do. He came through big this game.

Kyrin Galloway

2-5 3PT, 2 reb, 1 ast.

Isaiah Miller

3-13 FG (2-5 3PT), 5 reb, 7 ast, 2 blk, 1 stl, 3 to. Zay struggled from the field tonight but supplemented it with assists. And let me point out, Isaiah was double- and triple-teamed every time he touched the ball. It’s much harder to be Isaiah Miller this year because teams KNOW about him.

Malik Massey

2-5 FG (1-3 3PT), 4-5 FT, 1 reb, 3 ast, 5 to.

Keyshaun Langley

2-2 3PT, 1 reb, 1 blk, 1 stl, 4 to.

Big Mo

0-3 FG, 1 reb, 1 blk.

Michael Hueitt Jr

0-3 3PT, 2 ast.

Kobe Langley – Did not play (injured).

Bas Leyte – Did not play.

Khyre Thompson – Did not play.

Ryan Tankelewicz – Did not play.

The last game of the regular season takes place Saturday at UTC, 4:30 pm. I’ll be there even though the game “doesn’t matter.” It’ll be my first time in Chattanooga and I’ll be yelling loudly.

Side Note: Losing this game secured UNCG 3rd place in the Socon Tourney which means we play at 8:30 Saturday night on Mar 7.
